Supervision
Supervision at Taproot Counseling Services is:
Reflective
Supportive
Individualized
Supervision at Taproot is tailored to each individual supervisee, based on meeting you where you are at in your professional growth and supporting you to develop your unique professional self-of-therapist. Together, we create a supportive space where you are safe to celebrate achievements as well as discuss challenges, setbacks, and mistakes as a normal part of the learning process. You will experience reflective questions, suggestions for interventions when you ask for them, and occasionally a gentle and compassionate light shed on your areas for growth.

For more information about the focus of Katie’s work, see the Counseling page. Katie is happy to supervise work outside her areas of focus, and will let you know (and offer you referrals to other supervisors) if anything you work with is out of her scope. Generally, Katie is able to provide supervision regarding work with the following populations:
Individual adolescents (13+) and adults
Couples and non-monogamous constellations
Family work where all members of the family are 13 or older
Non-family or couple relational work (friends, roommates, etc)
Helpful Info for Prospective Supervisees:
Fees: Supervision is billed at $160/hour or $90/person for dyadic supervision. Pro-rated shorter sessions are also available by request. This fee includes short (up to 15 min) questions by email or phone between appointments. Anything lasting 20 min or more will be billed at the pro-rated hourly fee.
Dyadic Supervision: I am happy to provide dyadic supervision, but am unable to form dyads myself. If you are interested in dyadic supervision and don’t already have a dyad partner, I would recommend asking around in your normal networking channels to find someone who might be interested. I am willing to do dyads where one person is a supervisee and one is a fully licensed consultee.
Emergencies: You will be expected to be in touch as soon as possible when an emergent situation arises (e.g. client suicidality, mandated reporting, etc). See the supervision contract for more information.
Scheduling and Frequency: WA state law requires that you have at least one hour of supervision per every 80 clinical hours. Additionally, I require that we meet at least once per month. With these requirements as a baseline, you then have freedom to determine how frequently we meet and whether meetings are scheduled on a regular basis or we schedule as we go. Supervision can be booked by email, call/text, or booking online.
Multiple Supervisors: Occasionally, an associate will find it beneficial to have more than one supervisor. This can be for a variety of reasons, including seeking supervision on specialized topics and having a supervisor for a micro private practice while also having a supervisor in a paid group practice position. Whatever your reasons, I am willing to supervise in the case where there are more than one. I just require that I be able to contact your other supervisor so that we can all be on the same page.
